Early in her studies, Romina focused on the impact of pollutants on different ecosystems and their interaction with various organisms. For her Master's thesis at the Alfred Wegener Institute in 2018, she focused for the first time on the potential risks posed by munitions. Since starting her PhD at the Alfred Wegener Institute in 2022, she has focused mainly on the threat posed by dumped munitions and shipwrecks from the two world wars to marine organisms such as flatfish and mussels. The work concentrates on both biochemical and histological aspects to be able to make statements about the health of aquatic organisms.
